Freshwater turtles are important components of ecosystems but are also one of the most threatened vertebrate groups in the world. The life histories of some of these species present interesting challenges and opportunities for their conservation. Join us to learn more about conservation efforts regarding the Blanding’s turtle, a freshwater turtle species that has declined throughout its range and has been petitioned for federal listing. This episode will include information on its life history and ecology; recent efforts to assess its status, distribution, and threats in Michigan; and examples of stewardship actions and partners working together to help conserve this species.
