“Understanding Community Perspectives on Nature Based Strategies in the Saco River Watershed: An Assessment Needs, Knowledge, Interests, and Gaps”

Hi my name is Alexa and I am the summer 2026 nature-based solutions fellow! I graduated from the University of New England in December 2024 with my bachelor’s in environmental studies and a minor in writing. I enjoy creative writing, spending time outdoors, reading, and hanging out with my pet lizard, Mushi.

Alexa is the nature-based solutions fellow working with the collaborative for the 2026 summer through the University of New England's 10-week sustainability program.

Working under the mentorship of Jennifer Brousseau and Kelsey Johnson, Alexa will conduct interviews with municipal staff involved in planning, natural resources, and conservation to:

  • Assess municipal familiarity with nature-based strategies.

  • Identify existing and potential NBS projects.

  • Understand challenges and barriers to implementation.

  • Explore how the collaborative can better support municipal goals and needs related to NBS.

She is also involved in updating the website and social media.

The findings from her research will provide valuable insights for the collaborative and other regional partners seeking to foster collaborative approaches to watershed protection.
